This guide to a diet by health condition organizes, condition by condition, the ContaCal articles that explain how food fits into each diagnosis. Use it to find the right article fast, for yourself or for someone in your family.

One rule applies to all of them: food supports treatment, it does not replace it. When a condition needs specific protein, fat or fiber targets, the number comes from your care team.

Note: this is educational nutrition content. Nothing in this guide changes your medication, dose or medical advice. When in doubt, bring the article to your appointment and ask.

How this diet by health condition guide is organized

There are two big groups. The first covers metabolic and hormonal conditions: blood sugar and insulin, blood fats, blood pressure, fatty liver, thyroid, PCOS, gout and lipedema. The second covers digestive conditions, surgeries and treatments that change the way you eat.

Each item has a sentence or two on when it is worth reading. If your diagnosis is new, start with the first article in each block. A few articles are only available in Portuguese for now, and they are marked.

Blood sugar and insulin

How to reverse insulin resistance covers the warning sign that often shows up years before diabetes: the signs, the tests and the way back through weight and food. Start here if your labs showed high glucose or insulin.

Insulin resistance meal plan gives you the plate rule, a 7-day menu and the foods to choose or skip. It is for when you have the diagnosis and need to know what goes on the table.

Plate with greens, boiled egg, avocado and tomato, an example meal for blood sugar control

Diabetes foods to avoid explains that guidelines do not ban foods, they count carbohydrate. It shows how many grams fit in each meal and why rice, beans and fruit stay on the plate.

How to lower your A1C starts from a simple fact: the test reflects about 90 days. So it builds a reverse timeline and explains why cramming the week before the test does not move the number.

If you count carbs per meal, the carb counting article shows how to turn labels and tables into grams.

Cholesterol, triglycerides and blood pressure

High cholesterol diet shows why cutting eggs alone does not work and how to think about a daily cap on saturated fat, split across your meals.

How to lower triglycerides ranks the levers by effect, from alcohol to weight loss, and explains what each test range calls for and when to see a doctor.

DASH diet to lose weight explains why a plan built to lower blood pressure, with weight held steady, often stalls the scale, and how to build a deficit inside it.

Fatty liver

Signs of fatty liver explains why the condition is usually silent, which markers point to it and which test confirms it. Read it if an ultrasound found fat in your liver and you felt nothing.

Fatty liver diet comes next: the pillars of the plate, a 7-day menu and why teas and detoxes do not fix it.

Thyroid, PCOS, gout and lipedema

Hypothyroidism and weight loss separates the weight the thyroid explains from the weight it does not, and shows how to lose fat once your TSH is under control.

Hyperthyroidism diet (in Portuguese) covers the two phases of the condition: protecting muscle while hormone levels are high, then keeping weight from rebounding after control.

PCOS diet shows that the issue is rarely your daily carb total, it is that most carbs land at lunch and dinner. It explains how to redistribute them without eating less.

Gout diet (in Portuguese) explains why losing weight fast can trigger a flare and what actually helps: a small deficit, less beer and soda, and purines in the right place.

Lipedema diet is honest about what food can do: it does not remove lipedema fat, but it helps control extra weight, pain and yo-yo dieting.

Pancreas, gallbladder and cirrhosis

Pancreatitis diet opens the digestive block. The number that matters is grams of fat per meal, and the article shows where that fat hides and how to read the label.

Gallbladder removal diet is for life without a gallbladder. Without the bile reservoir, symptoms come from fat concentrated in one meal, and the article explains the adjustment phase.

Cirrhosis diet flips the fatty liver logic: losing weight is a bad sign, protein should not be cut and the bedtime snack has a purpose.

Acid reflux and diverticulitis

Acid reflux diet (in Portuguese) shows that plate size and dinner timing matter more than a list of banned foods, and that trigger foods vary from person to person.

Diverticulitis diet explains why the advice reverses halfway: low fiber during a flare, high fiber in remission. The fiber calculator gives you a reference for remission, always within what your doctor recommended.

Treatments and surgery

Diet during chemotherapy starts from a warning: unintentional weight loss during treatment is a risk sign. The article covers what to eat for each symptom and how to build a day of small meals.

Liver shrinking diet explains the goal of the final weeks before bariatric surgery: shrink the liver without letting protein drop.

Bariatric diet after surgery covers the phases after the operation, how much fits per meal and your daily protein floor.

In all three cases, the protein target comes from your team. If you do not have a number yet, the protein calculator is only a reference to bring to your appointment.

Sources

Organized and reviewed by Lucas, nutritionist. The food base of these articles follows the Dietary Guidelines for the Brazilian Population, from the Brazilian Ministry of Health, and the blood sugar articles draw on the Brazilian Diabetes Society guideline. Each article lists the specific sources for its condition.

Frequently asked questions

There is no standard diet. Insulin resistance, high cholesterol and fatty liver often show up together, and the basics that help one tend to help the others: weight, fiber and less sugar and alcohol. Pancreatitis, cirrhosis and life after bariatric surgery have their own rules, which your care team adjusts case by case.
